Homeless Youth Needs – 10/11/2011

October 12th, 2011

Hello, Angels!

Fall is in the air and we are going apple-picking! The apples will used to make apple pies, which we will be selling as a fundraiser after services at Middle Church on sunday.

Save the date: Nov. 15th will be a fundraiser for New Alternatives at Bartini.
Below is the list of current needs for our youth.

1.)We urgently need non-perishable, easy to prepare food items for youth who are living indoors, but have limited cooking facilities. Items like boxed macaroni and cheese, canned soups, ramen, cup of noodles, and cans of tuna fly off our pantry shelves!

2.) As the weather gets colder, we need blankets and sleeping bags for youth who are sleeping in parks and abandoned buildings.

3.) Jazzy is an 18 year old lesbian high school senior. She needs $80 to pay her senior dues so that she can have a cap and gown at graduation, be in the yearbook, and participate in other senior activities. She also needs $70 for her CUNY college application fees.

4.) Joseph recently arrived here from Puerto Rico and needs $90 to switch his PR driver’s license to a NYC license.

5.) We have three young people who need shoes. If you’re interested in helping with shoes, please donate a payless gift certificate, so the clients can try shoes on.

6.) Cupid needs a coat. She’s a women’s large.

7.) We are urgently in need of hygiene supplies – especially deodorant and toothpaste.

8.) Kimy, one of our trans women, just got out of prison, and she has no clothes. She particularly needs pants. Her size is 33 waist and 34 legs.

9.) Fantasia, one of our young lesbian moms, needs help with school uniforms for her daughter, Sunique. Please email me: kate@newalternativesnyc.org if you want to help with this one.

10.) Jagger and Michelle need help getting to relatives in Arcadia, CA. If you have extra frequent flyer miles or are willing to buy them bus tickets, let us know!

Items can be dropped off or mailed to us at:
